Upon meeting their betrothed, they succumb to the idea of the life they've been assigned to live by their father, but trouble soon boils over in the alienage. The city elf origin story finds the player character preparing to marry their betrothed, an elf they've never met before, despite a longing for so much more. The City ElfĮlves in Thedas are treated poorly by most, and those who do not belong to a Dalish tribe often find themselves living in city slums known as alienages. Conscripted into the Grey Wardens by Duncan, they follow him to Ostagar and begin a new life. Of course, that turns out to be a lie, and Jowan's actions land the player in hot water. Rumors that Jowan has been using blood magic have prompted the Templars to make him Tranquil, but he swears to the player he hasn't.

Preparing to undertake their Harrowing - a ritual designed to test the mage's skill, magical strength and fortitude against demons - the player is instantly thrown into the Fade, where they face a multitude of temptations designed to force them to fail.Ī female mage, regardless of race, has the opportunity to flirt with Cullen, one of the templars assigned to watch over their Harrowing, as well as with their long time friend and fellow mage Jowan. The Circle of Magi origin story is entirely class specific, which means the player can be either an elf or human and it won't change the overall outcome of the story. Because mages are considered dangerous and unpredictable, the character is watched closely by their superiors and the templars that have been assigned to watch over and protect them.
Much of the mage character's life has been spent in the secluded Circle tower in the center of Lake Honnrich.
